Method
- In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter, both sugars, eggs, vanilla, bananas, and sour cream until smooth.
- Sift the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt directly into the bowl using a fine-mesh strainer.
- Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet, add the chocolate chips, and fold just until no dry flour streaks remain.
- Pour the batter into a greased and parchment-lined 9x5-inch loaf pan, top with extra chips if desired, and bake at 350°F for 55 to 65 minutes, until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
If the top browns too quickly during baking, tent the pan loosely with foil for the last 15 minutes. The loaf slices cleanest after a full cool, and the chocolate chips will be set but still tender.
