Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 package (12 count) Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard (optional)
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until browned, about 6 to 8 minutes. Drain any fat.
  2. Slice the rolls in half horizontally without separating them. Place the bottom slab in a baking dish, spread with ketchup and mustard, then top with beef and cheese. Cover with the top slab.
  3. Mix the melted butter with a pinch of salt and sesame seeds, brush over the rolls, and cover loosely with foil. Bake 10 minutes, then uncover and bake 5 minutes more until golden.
  4. Let cool 2 minutes, cut between the rolls, and serve hot.

Notes

For an extra-crisp bottom, toast the bottom slab of rolls in the oven for 2 minutes before adding the ketchup and beef.
