Ingredients

  • 12 oz smoked sausage, sliced into ½-inch rounds
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 small green cabbage, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley

Method

  1. Brown the sausage in olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, about 5 minutes, then set aside.
  2. Lower the heat to medium, sauté the onion and garlic briefly, then add the cabbage, smoked paprika, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Cook for 10 minutes until softened and golden at the edges.
  3. Return the sausage to the pan, nestle the shrimp against the bottom, and cook 3 minutes per side until pink.
  4. Remove from the heat, add the lemon juice and parsley, and toss gently. Serve hot.

Notes

Pat the shrimp dry before cooking so they sear rather than steam. If you are starting with frozen shrimp, thaw them completely under cold water and blot them well.
