Ingredients

  • 1 lb Brussels sprouts, halved
  • 2 tbsp neutral oil
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add Brussels sprouts cut-side down in a single layer and cook undisturbed until deeply golden, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in garlic, a pinch of salt, and black pepper. Cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  3. Add brown sugar and soy sauce; toss for 2 to 3 minutes until the sugar melts and the sprouts are glossy and tender-crisp.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in apple cider vinegar, and taste for salt. Serve immediately.

Notes

For extra crunch, scatter toasted sesame seeds or a shake of crushed red pepper over the finished dish. The sprouts soften as they sit, so serve them hot for the best texture.
