Ingredients
Method
- Butter a 9x13-inch dish. Tear bread into rough 1-inch pieces (about 8 cups). Layer half the bread in the dish, scatter 1 cup blueberries over it, and top with the remaining bread.
- Whisk eggs, milk, heavy cream, 1/3 cup sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Pour custard evenly over the bread and press down gently. Cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Uncover the dish, scatter the remaining 1 cup blueberries and 1 tbsp sugar on top, and bake 45 to 50 minutes until set and golden.
- Let cool 5 minutes, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm.
Notes
This casserole needs to soak overnight (at least 8 hours), which is not counted in the prep time. You can use any sturdy white bread if challah is not available; just tear it and use the same volume. Bake time may vary a few minutes depending on your dish material and oven, so check for a set center that no longer jiggles.
