- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with liners. Whisk together the wheat bran, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
- In a medium bowl, whisk the buttermilk, oil, egg, vanilla, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir with a spatula just until no dry streaks remain. Do not overmix.
- Gently fold in the blueberries with a few light strokes.
- Scoop batter into the prepared tin, filling each cup nearly full. Bake 20 to 22 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pan 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
Notes
If the batter sits for 10 minutes before scooping, the bran absorbs liquid and the muffins stay extra tender. Frozen blueberries go straight into the batter without thawing.
