Ingredients
Method
- Whisk flour, cake mix, yeast, sugar, and salt. Combine warm milk, melted butter, and egg, then stir into dry ingredients. Knead 6 minutes until smooth and slightly tacky.
- Roll dough into a 12x16-inch rectangle. Spread with ½ cup soft butter, sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, and ⅓ cup sprinkles, then roll into a tight log.
- Cut into 12 rolls and place in a greased 9x13-inch pan. Cover and let rise until puffy, about 30 minutes.
- Heat oven to 350°F. Bake rolls for 22 to 25 minutes, until golden and set in the center.
- Beat cream cheese, 2 tbsp butter, and vanilla, then add powdered sugar. Spread frosting on warm rolls and top with extra sprinkles.
Notes
The second rise is short because the dough is enriched, so keep an eye on it rather than the clock. If you have time, a 45-minute rise gives even fluffier rolls. The center roll in the pan can look a little doughy even when done, so trust the color of the tops and a quick internal check.
