- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Combine ground chicken, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl, mixing gently just until combined.
- Shape the mixture into 16 to 18 meatballs, about 1½ inches each, and place on a greased baking sheet.
- Bake for 15 to 17 minutes, until an instant-read thermometer reads 165°F (74°C) in the centers.
- Toss the baked meatballs in barbecue sauce, return to the sheet, and broil 6 inches from heat for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce bubbles and darkens.
- Transfer to a platter, drizzle any remaining sauce on top, and serve hot.
Notes
Let the meatballs rest for 1 to 2 minutes after broiling so the sauce sets and the first bite won't burn your tongue. They taste even better the next day after the flavors meld, so they are a great make-ahead option.
