Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 (15 oz) cans pork and beans, undrained
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Method

  1. Brown the 1 lb ground beef and diced onion in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, about 7 minutes, until no pink remains.
  2. Stir in the 2 cans pork and beans, 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 2 tbsp mustard, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp pepper, and simmer 3 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the skillet uncovered for 25 minutes, until bubbling and thickened.
  4. Spoon into bowls and serve hot.

Notes

If you're not using an oven-safe skillet, transfer the beef and bean mixture to a greased 9x13 baking dish before it goes into the oven. The sauce will keep thickening slightly as it sits off the heat for a few minutes, so don't worry if it looks a touch thin the moment it comes out.
