Ingredients

  • 1 cup diced Granny Smith apple (about 1 medium)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method

  1. Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.
  2. In another bowl, whisk egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Pour wet into dry, stir until a shaggy dough forms, then gently fold in diced apple.
  4. Grease air fryer basket. Scoop 1/4 cup mounds of batter onto basket, spacing 2 inches apart. Air fry 8 to 10 minutes until deeply golden, flipping halfway.
  5. Stir powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, and cinnamon for glaze, adding more milk as needed. Drizzle over warm fritters and let set a few minutes before serving.

Notes

If your apples are very juicy, pat them dry before folding into the batter. The fritters are best served warm, the day they are made, but they reheat beautifully in the air fryer.
