- Place the flour in a large bowl.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs with some pea-sized bits.
- Stir in the milk just until a sticky dough forms, then bring together with your hands.
- Pat the dough into a 1-inch-thick round, cut into 8 wedges, and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12 to 15 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
Notes
The dough should feel tacky but not wet. If it’s too sticky to handle, dust your hands and the counter with a little flour rather than working more into the dough itself. For the flakiest result, chill the shaped scones on the tray for 10 minutes before baking.
