Ingredients

  • 1 lb firm white fish fillets (cod, tilapia, or mahi mahi), cut into 1-inch strips
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil, plus more for spraying
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt, plus more for slaw and crema
  • 8 small corn tortillas
  • 2 cups finely shredded green cabbage
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice, divided
  • Pinch of granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
  • ⅓ cup sour cream
  • 1–2 tbsp minced chipotle in adobo, to taste

Method

  1. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Dry fish strips, toss with oil, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and ½ tsp salt.
  2. Stir together mayo, sour cream, chipotle, 1 tbsp lime juice, and a pinch of salt. Adjust heat to taste.
  3. Toss cabbage with remaining 1 tbsp lime juice, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Massage gently until slightly softened.
  4. Arrange fish in a single layer in the basket, spray with oil, and cook 8–10 minutes at 400°F, flipping halfway, until golden and flaky.
  5. Warm tortillas, then fill with fish, slaw, and crema. Serve immediately.

Notes

The slaw and crema can be made a day ahead. The fish is best right away; if you have leftovers, reheat the fish in the air fryer to bring back some crunch.
